Term 2 has been extremely busy and enjoyable for all pupils in 6th Class. We have been fortunate enough to take part in many extracurricular activities such as Boxing, GAA, Athletics and Rugby. Our Senior Football Team has made a successful return with a fantastic win to begin the season and we are hoping for an exciting few months ahead.
In English, we have been enjoying the novel ‘Under the Hawthorn Tree’ which ties in nicely with our study of the Famine in SESE. We have also been busy exploring recount writing and writing our own recounts.
In Maths, we have been working really hard on the topics of Decimals and Long Division.
The boys created lovely Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day and Spring artwork pieces using pointillism, clay and painting. We even constructed St. Brigid’s Day crosses using real rushes all the way from Co. Roscommon.
In Music, we created projects on The Wolfe Tones, Christy Moore, The Dubliners and Michael Jackson. The boys have been busy preparing ‘Viva la Vida’ and ‘Yellow’ by Coldplay with 5th Class for their upcoming performance at Assembly.
We attended a workshop ‘If Things Could Talk’ at the NMI at Collins Barracks. It was really fun and we got to explore with some artefacts. We also attended two online workshops – Go Extinct and Chair Yoga, Mindfulness and Meditation. The boys in 6th Class attended ‘Hacked’, an online safety workshop and afterwards, we got to enjoy some delicious pancakes for Pancake Tuesday.
Well done to the boys on all their hard work this term. From us all here in 6th Class, I would like to wish you all a lovely Easter break.
